When it comes to artificial things it’s all about two things – feel and appearance. If you’re going to play with something that is fake, good tactile response and a lack of defects is the Visit Cool Material for the full post.  Read More →

Imagine if your Android cellphone could play Playstation-like games. Now further imagine that in place of a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, it had a slight-out game controller, complete with D-pad, buttons and an analog control-strip. What you are imagining exists inside Sony Ericsson’s labs, and may be coming to you as soon as October of this year. Engadget cites a “trusted source” inside Sony Ericsson and has some surprisingly...

Somebody needs to make an iPhone game-pad already. The iPhone is great for games and all, but for old-school platformers and beat-’em-ups like Streetfighter IV, nothing beats having some real buttons to mash. Enter the gPod, a be-buttoned case into which you slide the iPhone. It has a d-pad, four control buttons along with select, start and a pair of shoulder-buttons. It is the perfect thing for playing old Super Nintendo games. But we...

Blogs and message boards have been lighting up with the buzz about Apple’s family-friendly App Store policy, which bans soft porn and satire — but a game that glorifies smoking somehow got the green light. Apple on Monday approved Puff Puff Pass , a $2 game whose objective is to pass a cigarette or pipe around and puff it as many times as you can within a set duration. So much …  Read More →

Nintendo Wii users don’t have to feel left out anymore. Netflix has started shipping instant streaming discs to Wii owners who have signed up for it. The move makes Wii the last console among its peers to get the service. About a year-and-a-half ago, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 became the first console to offer direct access to Netflix for gamers. Sony’s PlayStation 3 users gained access to Netflix’s instant streaming service...

There are three* video games I know anything about, and all of them I played obsessively through my college years. One of those games is Streetfighter II, Capcom’s amazingly popular (and awesome) one-on-one beat’em-up. So when Streetfighter IV turned up on the App Store yesterday, I downloaded it to my iPod Touch and pretty much lost the rest of the day. Here’s a quick first look at the iPhone version of the world’s most...

Touchgrind, the iPhone skateboarding game I briefly loved last February, could be coming to the Mac. Normally Mac games are cause for disappointment, but this one has a new angle: multi touch. The oversized MacBook trackpad can recognize up to eleven fingers at once (we’ll leave the precise positioning of those fingers to your imagination). So far we have seem little more than fancy swipes and pinch-to-zoom, but gaming seems an obvious...

Manufacturers market lightweight, miniature netbooks as the ideal product for “road warriors.” But what do you call customers who buy beefy notebooks for gaming? Geek warriors? Whatever you call them, Asus R.O.G. G73Jh is a serious portable gaming machine. Unveiled at CES, the notebook is equipped with the quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (like the one seen in Apple’s awesome new 27-inch iMac). It features a 17-inch display,...
