Helmut Smit is our new favorite artist/designer, even if FLAMMA was the only project he’d ever done (it isn’t, by the way, and they are all stellar). This brilliant Ikea Hack “harks back to one of humanity’s basic needs: making fire.” As Ikea does not sell matches or lighters, Smits has taken cues from the wartime necessity of burning furniture to keep warm, and created a fire from an Ikea rope, hanger, wine  Read More →

This weekend, I’m going to be sparking up the grill with the Looftlighter, an electric firestarter that looks like an oversized curling iron, sounds like a hair dryer, and gets a good-sized pile of charcoal briquettes ready to grill in just a few minutes. I’ll admit I was skeptical about the $80 Looftlighter , which comes from Sweden and whose name, I believe, must be pronounced with as much Nordic accent as you can muster. It’s...

Oscar Magnus Narud’s Keel collection: tables in rough wood and iron. Make-Me is an upcoming exhibition at Moss , running from September 15th through November 14th, that brings together an set of artists and designers producing what Moss has coined “Butch-Craft.” Maybe there is no better way to describe this than the words they use themselves: “a cerebral yet virile narrative applied to rough work crafted in wood, iron,...

A4estudio present us with this masterpiece of concrete, glass and aluminum located in Mendoza, Argentina. The low profile home shows a combination of materials that ties to the landscape. Boulders and stone walls seems to emerge and meet the cantilevered concrete structure and the middle outdoor space, acting more like an industrial atrium and bringing sun and green to the inside through the glass panels and doors. The interior is fresh and...

Apart from the fact that it is owned by Minogue, the other great point about this flat is that it is actually beautiful. It is a gorgeous maisonette that…  Read More →
