OPD Product Design’s Koolhaus faucet concept helps monitor your water consumption

July 23rd, 2010 admin

UK-based OPD Product Design’s Koolhaus concept is a faucet that lets you know how much water you’re using–not just from the Koolhaus itself, but throughout the entire bathroom, even dividing the bath tap and shower tap into separate categories. I’m not crazy about the form factor–seems like a part from an extreme athlete’s bicycle–and the screen’s a bit too small

Counterintuitive product design: A light that helps you get to sleep
I often joke that my lawyer friend Logan’s stories are so boring, hospitals could use him as a powerful anaesthetic and sleep aid. I’ve never had any problems sleeping at night, but if I did I’d record one of his “amusing anecdotes” and put the iPod on repeat by the end table. One person who did have trouble sleeping...

Art Lebedev Studio’s see-thru truck concept
Ever been stuck behind a semi on the highway and missed your exit sign? We’re digging Art Lebedev Studio’s Transparentius concept , which mates a simple idea with existing technology in a clever way: Cameras mounted on the front of a semi transmit the image to screens on the back of the truck, rendering a sort of virtual transparency....

Future Phones Dazzle With Design
Concept devices go where most product designers fear to tread. They are dream gadgets that hint at possibilities beyond what current technology can support — or what current fashion can accept. And that’s just why we like them. They may be fantasies, but concept designs point at a future that today’s designers aspire towards....

With Electric Pop concept, Kia continues to distinguish itself via design
It’s a promising sign that plucky upstart Kia is trying, in a crowded market, to distinguish itself through design. Its Electric Pop concept looks like it’s just an ambitious rendering, but apparently the automaker will be pulling the wraps off of a physical version of the car in less than two months at the Paris Motor Show. Its goal,...

Design Affairs’ mobile washing machine concept for developing countries
We’re digging Design Affairs’ Swirl concept , which is similar to Project H’s Hippo Roller except that rather than transporting water, the Swirl’s job is to clean clothes. After filling the rubbery sphere with water and detergent, the user rolls the thing around via a handle, using perambulation to provide the spin cycle....
