For its next Apple TV, Apple may ditch the set-top box form factor and instead cram a media player into a tiny device running the iPhone OS, according to Engadget. The blog cites an anonymous tipster who claims the next Apple TV has been described as “ an iPhone without a screen ,” containing only two ports — the power socket and the video-out — and the same internal architecture as an iPhone (A4 CPU). Marshall Sees Apple in `Great Posit...Sept. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Brian Marshall, an analyst at Gleacher & Co., discusses the competition between Apple Inc. and Google Inc. in the growing Web television market. Last week, Apple unveiled a lower-priced Apple TV set-top box that can offer high-definition TV-program rentals for 99 cents. Google has an agreement with Sony Corp. to launch Web TV in the US this fall, while Samsung Electronics Co. said it may make sets run by Google's software to compete with Sony and Apple in the market for TVs that access movies, shows and games online.
