The Confab brings these groups together in a unique way, in an event tailored to maximize the exchange of ideas and build effective professional networks in just a few short hours. In San Francisco at the lovely and inspiring Autodesk Gallery on location and this was what we did that day.   Beyond Reality - Project Runway Sea...
  Beyond Reality - Project Runway Season 8 Recap 7/31/10 Season eight begins in Lincoln Center the new home of New York Fashion week with 17 designers. They learn the audition process is not over. The 1st challenge is actually the last part of the auditions. The challenge is to create a design incorporating something from your suitcase - nope there's a twist - its actually the person next to you's item. You only have 15 mins to sketch & 5 hours to execute your design. As usual they will have mood for fabrics and Tim to mentor them. The models were randomly paired with the designers for this challenge. Judges this week - Heidi, Michael Kors, Nina Garcia & Selma Blair. After the runway show they reveal that there is one clear winner & a bottom 6. The winner is Gretchen - she had one of the worst fabrics to work with. The Bottom 6 were - Ivy - Jason - April - McKell - Nicholas - Casanova. Results - April - In. Nicholas - In. Jason - In. Bottom 3 - McKell - Casanova - Ivy. McKell is cut & Casanova & Ivy get a second chance. Next time - the winner will be featured and there may be more than one designer going home.

  Design For Humanity by Billabong Ju...
  Last week, Billabong threw one of the biggest industry parties of the year. Billabong's 4th Annual Design For Humanity fashion, music, art event attracted over 3000 partygoers to the Paramount Studios 5-acre NY Streets Backlot in Hollywood. A backdrop big enough to support 2 concert stages, a 24 foot runway, 4 DJs, 4 art galleries, 3 live art installations, a pop-up shop by Swell, and 4 different food trucks and 6 bars. The sold out fashion-music-art block party was a blow out with Legendary electroclash duo FISCHERSPOONER and "It" girl Kid Sister performing after Billabong's one-of-a-kind runway fashion show. 100% of this year's ticket sales and proceeds from the art show and product collaboration auction sales will be donated to Invisible Children. So far over $75000 was raised from the event with thousands more expected from the art and bikini collaboration auctions as well as the Runway collection.   Saturday, May 15th — www.munnyexhibit.com — twenty-three of NYC's best-known industrial designers came together for a one night only event the MunNY exhibit. Held at the Ace Hotel's Liberty Hall, this exhibit challenged each designer to create a unique interpretation of KidRobot's iconic MUNNY figure. www.munnyexhibit.com This site documents both the evening and each designer's studio & influences through a 360 degree experience centering on MUNNY. Take a spin through each designer's studio, filled with the things that inspires them and their own work. View videos and photos of their unique points of view. Then explore each designers' interpretation of MUNNY, including 360 degree and 3D photography, designer statements and downloads. Best of all, each MUNNY is being auctioned on eBay to benefit the Robin Hood Foundation.
