So, in the next days I will post my “Postcards from Asia” which will be followed by a complete gallery about my “design adventures” in Asia. Some more designers that I met at the Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) in Bangkok were Wednesday Garden – a design team doing product and graphic design, who showed me some of the bags and stationary they create and distribute. For example the Wet Paint Bag Family – a series of graphically appealing bags in different sizes...

Postcards from Asia: Thailand: Colors of the Day
In Thai tradition, there is an astrological rule (which has influence from Hindu mythology) that assigns one particular color to each day of the week. The color assigned is based on the color of the God who protects the day. For example, the God of Sunday is Surya which has a red color. These colors of the day are the traditional Thai birthday...

Postcards from Asia: Surathani: Public Library
In the south of Thailand, in the small town of Surathani, there is a public library directly on the pier which I have ‘discovered’ while waiting for the night boat to an island. It is run voluntarily by a couple (with the help of their daughter) and despite the fact that it exists already since five years and is under high demand by...

New York Design Week 2010: Favorites from Design Deutschland
Design Deustchland’s bright orange booth at ICFF was a big improvement on last year’s. Instead of being arranged by category and hung on the wall, the objects were spread out in mini spaces that felt like small rooms, with lamps on tables, chairs on desks, and the odd car here and there. The show encompassed both established companies...

Postcards from Asia: Hanoi: Phone Number Grafitti
All over Hanoi you’ll find phone numbers stencilled on the walls of houses. It’s the only kind of graffiti you’ll see here and it makes the city look like one giant Robert Rauschenberg painting. The numbers are advertisements for local handymen – the guy who will fix your washing mashine, unclog your drain or repair your...
